Thanks for that Ellen,
there may be a connection between the families, but I don't know the
places
where all the family members lived in the UK yet.
Did you look at the family tree I have posted?

A few more thoughts Ellen;
Although your grandfather set off from Plymouth, was he actually born
there?
A great many people emigrated from Plymouth since it was a major point
of
embarkation. do you know his first name and the approximate date of
his
birth, and preferably, his birthplace?
There are only about 300 people named Smout that I can trace in the
UK
today, it is possible that they originate from a common ancestor, but
there
are a great many links in the family tree that we do not yet know.
If you find out more, please let me know.
all the best,
Graham Smout

Thanks for the reply,

Genius is a family tree program, not too big, and shareware too. Download
the .gen file but you will probably have to get hold of Genius somehow,
perhaps from a friend on the internet and look at smoutdad.gen
>is it posted in html?
The file is also posted in html as well as in "Genius" format. You can
look
at it from there; go to

Yes there are, and some are modern day realtions of my family. I will
ask my
father if he can identify any of them. I'm just in the first stages
of this
research, so things are going quite slowly at the moment.
all the best,

Hi Graham
I hope there is a link someday. One point, the info I gave you is for
my
Grandfather not my Great Grandfather. That unfortunately is as
far as I can go
back.
Thanks and keep in touch.
